Home sweet home! As my house was still rented out, I went to Irma again, and it wasn't long before I got a commision for a Gauguin copy for a lodge in one of the golf estates, from where I always got some work. Within a month of my being back, Trienkie came back from Holland, where she had a whale of a time, and informed me that as soon as her work permit came through, she was off to England for another two years! I was stunned, but just a week after this staggering news, the woman whom I was doing the painting for, and knew that I loved working in Greece, asked me if I would not like a job as companion to an old man in Holland. I immediately said yes, and started organising my visa the next day. I have let the agent in Greece know that I did not see my way open for another year with Brenda, and she was amazingly understanding, so it made me wonder! I also wrote a letter to little Manos so his dad could read it to him. I was informed by the woman I would be working for, who was young, and obviously married an old man for his money, that as the gate to the farmhouse was far, she was getting a bicycle ready for me to go to the bus or trainstation on my days off. So, me not having been on a bicycle for many years, decided to try riding Irma's bike around the house a few times before trying the road. With my five year old granddaughter following my doings with large round eyes, I started off quite nicely, but coming round the corner of the house I suddenly saw this big Magnolia tree in the way, and my steering went a bitty haywire, and I caught a wobble, and careered smack bang into the tree, taking off a huge branch, and vaguely I heard a very hysterical Kristani, my granddaughter scream: Mummy, Mummy, Ouma is dead'! Then I knew nothing! I was lights-out, and came to after a few minutes with a worried Irma, and a heartboken child bending over me, so I smiled and assured them that I was just a bit winded by the branch I took off, and when Kristani realised that I was ok, she started laughing and couldn't stop! Luckily nothing was broken, so I could go on with my plans, and all too soon I was packed and ready to go! The woman that employed me played golf all over the world, and as her husband had become quite frail, he could not accompany her anymore, or stay alone on the farm, so she got me! I had a good lot of practice on the bicycle, albeit left with a few scrapes and bumps, but nothing serious!
