I love London, and before I get the Great Western Flyer to Scotland, I stay for a few days In Protea House, a small kind of backpackers in Hammersmith, and visit the museums, and all the other wonderful sights. I love to walk along the Thames, taking in the Tate Modern and a few coffee shops on my way, and sometimes I took a trip on the Thames on a touristy boat.
Then on to Scotland, where my wee Panda was waiting for me, and my many friends, and of course my mountains, lochs and Glens.
I was a bit apprehensive, as this time of course I was going to a new hotel, and that was a bit strange, as I felt very disloyal to my old hotel, where I have been so happy while Joe and Rosanne owned it. But I just did not see my way open to go back to Anne and her very strange ways, as to her the cheapest and easiest ways was followed, and I am sorry, but I felt, that if somebody paid for a decent place to stay, he should get a decent room, but with the dog hair and towels that were so hard that it could strip the skin off one's body, I wasn't sure that they would keep going for very much longer.
My new hotel was squeeky clean, the people old hands at catering, and they welcomed me with open arms.
It was to be quite a nice job, as Susan, the daughter was running the kitchen, and doing dinner with me as her assistant, and it suited me fine. I was to do breakfast, with me cooking, and Fiona serving, and as I had always enjoyed working mornings, things worked out nicely.
Then I had to do lunch, and if there was some cooking or baking to be done, I had to do it, but, as Lorna told me, that would only be occasionally.
The first day I started, after I had done the prep for lunch, Fiona asked me to make a big lasagne, as Susan was unable to come in later, so, with me not knowing where anything was yet, I started bally rattling, for of course I believed in doing things right when it had anything to do with guests, and Lorna and her assistant called Mary, was busy doing rooms.
I was absolutely shattered when lunch was over, as Lorna came in for a while to show me how she liked things done, but I could sort of see that she was one of those who wanted things done her way, and that put a little fear into my heart, but, I wanted to succeed, so I did it all her way. It was her hotel in any case, and if I knew a better way, I decided to keep it to myself!
But seeing how she treated a young boy who worked week-end the next day, I felt a bit worried, as I thought her really unfair, but as I didn't know the boy, or her yet, I decided that she must have reasons that was not apparent to me. I would have run then if I knew just what was waiting for me!
